I decided to try out the idea of downloading RPGs and putting them on a laptop instead of carting around a bunch of books and sure enough it works really really well. It weighs about the same but you obviously can carry many more "books" without a problem, plus I have a bunch of random generators, DM aids and combat monitors to copy over.
I just have to bookmark the different bits of some of the books to make life a little easier.

There were only two real hitches to the game last night, one was that I couldn't find a stat block for a locust swarm in the monster manual no matter how hard I looked. The other was that one of the players who shall remain nameless spent the evening in some sort of weird sulk and started doing the dishes and wiping the countertops and emptying the dishwasher and filling the dishwasher and generally acting the fucking prick for several hours.
