At one stage I had windows 98 installed and was installing XP but I couldn't find the serial number so I stopped the process, installed a firewall and the modem and went online to find one. That done, I formatted the machine again to ensure a clean slate.
That was at around half eight, for the next four hours (And it's still not resolved) I had to deal with fatal exceptions, blue screens, message boxes telling me that some undefinable thing had gone wrong and that it was my fault.
And that's just when I'm installing windows 98. Windows XP just flat out will not install and gives me some blue screen with a message saying IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I wouldn't mind except I'm using exactly the same serial numbers and process that I used last time. It might be faulty RAM or something but either way it looks like another trip to IT Direct. This time I shall bring a stick.
