Dark age of Camelot doesn't seem to be doing it for me any more. Gone are the days when I could happily spend hours going up in levels for no good reason. Now I have realised that it ultimately WAS for no good reason and it wasn't all that much fun either.
Is it just me being pessimistic or do computer games in general (never mind the MMORPG genre) suck something terrible these days? Jedi Academy was fun once I got it running but it was nothing special in the final resolution.
MMORPGs in particular are really lacking after the first couple of months, there's a certain attraction to being a badass but after a while going up in levels becomes less of a joy and more of a tedious process of selecting a monster, hitting the "attack" button and then standing by, ready to run or making occasional contributions to an otherwise automated combat.
Maybe one day there'll be a game that combines your gaming skills, hand eye coordination and reflexes with some sort of skill system but that doesn't seem to be the case. I think there's one or two like planetside and Neocron but from what I can gather it's more like a first person shooter where you do more damage the more powerful you become rather than simply getting a bit better.
Maybe an online game, fantasy of course, where as you go up in level you get more powerful moves to try and pull off, maybe with combos and not make it so incredibly difficult to go up in level - that would be nice.
