It really should be considering they've had 4 years over the WoW engine and should be able to learn all the lessons from Blizzard on how to do a fantasy MMO. Also they have a huge ready made fanbase... Sun, Sep. 7th, 2008 04:06 pm (UTC)
I'm sure the game is great, I'm really looking forward to it but like tens of thousands of users, I can't actually get into the game. First this morning one of their community managers said that you needed to create a new account to enter your open beta keys to get access to the game. After about six hours of the page not working they mentioned on a forum (not the main news page mind you) that your old account would work just fine, at which point the servers died utterly. This is after months of GOA promising that the open beta would be as smooth as release day, that everything would definitely work smoothly and yadda yadda yadda. A lot of people are screaming that this is an atrocity and the worst thing ever and I don't want to be one of those basement dwelling tools but realistically, its definitely the worst "launch" I've ever seen. WoW went relatively smoothly by comparison, it took three or four hours all told but there was feedback on the problems and any other releases I've seen were more or less the same. The ones I wasn't in for were relatively trouble free too and by way of direct comparison, the US servers for WAR are working perfectly and masses of people are playing quite happily. All this is after they assured the player base over and over and over again that everything was fine, people actually got banned from the forums for criticising GOA's past performance which, it turns out, is precisely what just happened. |
