Magic/Religon - The art of getting up off your ass and doing something about it but lacking the faith in yourself to take credit.

I've just seen a little too much of the "X helped me to do Y" lately, where X is god, faith, religon or whatever when in fact it was clearly their hard work and determination, willpower or endurance (depending on what they did). I'd just like to see people take credit for their own actions a bit more and stop thanking ephemeral forces.

But what if "X" or the belief in '"X" provides the focus they need or enbles them then surely that is a good thing ?

Yeah but its still all their own work when they get down to it, saying X gave me the strength means you couldn't have done it without X when that simply isn't the case, it keeps people from realising their full potential.

I disagree :) if they feel that they are not up to the ask and need to ask for 'outside' assitance even if it is a placebo but they do go on to thrive
then honestly what harm ?
What would be the option for that type of people never achieve at all cos they can't use X as thier scapegoat or focus ?

I agree with theadydal. I have been through phases in my life that I could not have gotten through without a belief in something other than myself (god, family, friends etc..).Sometimes belief can be the only thing that motivates someone to try to pick themselves up.

Yes its still all their own work, but they may not have done any of that work without inspiration and belief.
i.e. I know I am capable of doing great things but if I didn't have something to motivate me I wouldn't even try.
