I just won two tickets to see Bill Hicks - A Slight Return in the Olympia in a fortnight. Why do good things keep happening to me whenever I pay my gym fees?

Are you sure it's a good thing?

I'm distrustful of tribute acts in general, but comedy ones even more so.

I mean, won't you have heard the entire act before? The only accolade he could possibly hope for is "Wow.. he didn't fuck it up like I thought he would"

Note to self: Burn heathen at stake next week. By all accounts it is pretty good, not some moron who misses the whole point of Hicks' comedy and comes off like a second rate Denis Leary (or a third rate Bill Hicks I suppose). I get the impression it isn't about recycling his material so much as adapting it to work in the modern day, which isn't terribly hard unfortunately.

After two sell-out seasons at the Edinburgh festival and an extended run in London's West End, Chas Early's astonishing solo performance continues its international tour, spreading bad language and political incorrectness.

"Unimaginably brilliant- a comedy blinder. Beautiful heavy-hitting, bad boy stuff... and it is almost painfully good. It is almost painfully Hicks." The Scotsman (4 stars)

"Terrific. Chas Early gives this rollicking reincarnation integrity and wit." Metro

"From the point of view of appearance, movement, facial expression, delivery and content, Slight Return is a triumph of mimicry, research and writing." The Independent (4 stars)

"Achieves the impossible: a brave idea that shouldn't work – but it does." TimeOut

"The routines carry just the right plaintive, told-you-so indignation, and there are one-liners to treasure at every turn." Daily Telegraph

So why doesn't he be Chas Early: the original and not Bill Hicks: the Shameless Cash-In? Poor man, with no name of his own.

Maybe he just really really likes Bill Hicks?
