I think I give up on this SATA bullshit, I can't get windows to see it, I can't get the bios to admit it exists, I can't persuade any of the utilities or diagnostics to do anything other than complain. I think the route to success now involves putting the drive in a sock and using it to club the bloke who said I should totally, definitely go with a SATA drive because they're like... great.

I phoned Glen, since he's gone to town to buy an ide disk. He reckons the sata drive's only 80g though.

I didn't bother my hole getting one in the end, the queues in peats were too long and I'm convinced ITDirect piss on their stock or something. Everything I buy from them breaks down at least once.

Right, I'm back from town and about to head off to Stillorgan to get rabbit stuff but before I go - that sounds rather excellent. The drive is a Maxtor and other than that I have *no* idea what size it is, it could be anywhere between 60 and 160 gigs because I didn't actually place the order myself, I got it with a bunch of other stuff a bloke in work was getting so I didn't pay a huge amount of attention to it.
I'll yank it out before the BBQ and bring it along anyway, you can text/call me at 086 3564685 so I have your number and once I know for sure I'll let you know the size.

Scratch all that, its working after some insane arcane tinkering.
