My sinewave of fortune has returned to an upward turn once more. The hard disk I previously took to be utterly shagged has somehow been redeemed through the highly technical art of "poking and prodding". Right at this minute it is thirty six hours and about 1/2 of the way through the process of rescuing the files that were formatted, corrupted and otherwise fecked up by the incident. I estimate about a 50% recovery of all my files. I just hope the 50% that are lost forever are the ones I backed up previously or plain didn't want. The odds are against this and barely a single PDF would seem to have made it through this digital maelstrom alive so far.

Hopefully one of the files recovered will be the six page long dissection of World of Warcraft mathematics where I scientifically prove that everything is a waste of time and everyone is full of crap.

Six pages? Surely all you needed was a URL pointing at the official WoW forums? Still one place on tonight's ZG, btw, if you manage to get WoW restored...

Ah but you see unlike the forums I am not content to restrict my bitching to "ZOMFG! Tihs Suks!". Extensive...ish.. research and considerable amounts of maths went into proving that epics are a load of crap, the time taken to get them is - for the most part grossly disproportionate to the amount of time taken to get them, even if you use words like "exponential to the power level" and that both raiders *and* people who complain about the lack of epics and increased amount of time needed to get the upgrades are as full of crap as the people who claim Blizzard release raid dungeons because most players are raiders (the upshot is, I think, that the tier 0.5 represent some of the best value in the game for epics but you have to be generating 20g per hour to make that work)

Anyway, I haven't a chance in hell of being ready for this evening unfortunately, I can barely summon the manual dexterity required to fish on the powerbook, never mind heal at anything like a competent level and the barenaked minimum amount of time before my computer is even usable is another twenty four hours, never mind the time needed to install and upgrade. Besides, with a new HDD on the way it makes more sense to wait until I have that installed and running as the new primary drive.

It is as the french say "le Suck", but WoW installed on a SATA drive in the primary slot instead of an IDE in the slave should see some significant performance increases for me and mean five different AoE spells going off at once doesn't make my computer decide to take a time out.... or I could turn down the level of detail but ...y'know...
