Why oh WHY did Sky see fit to remove all Jon Stewart appearances from their Oscard round-up last night and put Jamie Theakston and Amanda Byram on instead? What parallel universe did I slip into where those talentless, vapid, insipid, mugging jackasses are more entertaining than Stewart? Who could possibly think that their attempts at comedy would be anything other than painful? There *was* an oscar presenter, why PAY those two brain donors to do something he did better? What the hell is wrong with this world?

Clooney's speech was good though.

It was in response to criticisms from the american right wing regarding actors and actresses who are against the war in Iraq and the Bush regime in general. These right wing folk reckon they can dismiss anyone who disagrees with them by simply declaring that their ideas don't mesh with the vast majority (ie, the right wing folks who, obviously, aren't exactly a majority)

"And finally, I would say that, you know, we are a little bit out of touch in Hollywood every once in a while. I think it's probably a good thing. We're the ones who talk about AIDS when it was just being whispered, and we talked about civil rights when it wasn't really popular. And we, you know, we bring up subjects. This Academy, this group of people gave Hattie McDaniel an Oscar in 1939 when blacks were still sitting in the backs of theaters. I'm proud to be a part of this Academy. Proud to be part of this community, and proud to be out of touch."
