I need a name for my powerbook and I'm having trouble coming up with anything that suits. cartographer
calls hers "Matchbox" and thats a fine and cutesey name and all but I need something a bit more me
. For that matter, as lovely as the brushed silver finish is on those things, I fancy slapping a few stickers or stencils on it to make it a bit less eminently nickable and again, a bit more me. Not that I'm regarding the thing as a fashion statement or anything but I have a certain look that makes me feel comfortable and brushed silver isn't it.

Do you have it yet? I find I can't chose a name for a machine until I have it in my hands and have a feel for it.
My current personal naming scheme is four letter (made-up) words that end in a vowel. I like them, they're distinctive and unique.

Oh I've had it for a couple of days now, I've been getting a feel for the OS and downloading the applications I figure I need and can use. I like giving a good name to a computer, it helps me to enjoy using it more, like some sort of creepy geek symbiosis or connection. My desktop machine is called Monster, my last laptop was called "Tiny God" - its a strange anthromorphisising thing.

Computers don't like to be anthropomorphised :)
I've got a list or two of applications I consider worthwhile or indispensable that I've sent to switchers in the past, let me know if you want a look.

Honestly? the best PCs I've ever had are the ones I treated a bit more personally. Call it crazy or superstitious but it works for me. I'd be interested in that list, I'm not entirely using the machine as a unix learning tool so much as a lightweight computer capable of playing games and letting me be online and do stuff out and about so I can leave the house on my own and not be bored but I'm sure theres something on it I could use.

Oh, I was joking about the anthropomorphism really :)Here's the list
I refer people to. Ignore the first few paragraphs of banal-bloggyness :)

Yeah, I see now I had a retard moment there. Thanks for the list though, a lot of people would have assumed that my inability to spot subtle quips would mean I was an unsuitable mac owner :)

All damned fine names, but "Internet Batman" is still riding high as a favourite :)

Great! Now you can get an ipod, name it Robin, and the two can have an ambiguous relationship!

My iBook is lola.
She was a show girl...
Now she's a battered first generation 12" G4 iBook who is sorely in need of a RAM upgrade and a fresh install of OS X.
