I'm in a mood to play some old games at the moment, the selection of old Snes and Megadrive ROMs I have at the moment is fairly poor and I figure I might download a few new ones. Trouble is, I can't remember which ones were any good - I know the Mortal Kombat series are a fair bet - Mario, Sonic and co are solid enough but beyond that all my knowledge of games of yore has abandoned me.
So, any suggestions?

Got both Earthworm Jim games, I remember Zombies and it was cool. Never heard of Soleil. I have a few RPGs like Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana but almost everything else seems to be in Japanese.

Not the same I know, but I've got a Quake 2 cd I'm trying to get rid of, and one of a weird game called Sanitarium. Might you be interested by any chance?

Not so much in Quake 2, I've got a copy somewhere already but I seem to remember that Sanitarium was at least interesting. On that topic, if you ever come across a *working* copy of either of the games illustrated by HR Geiger (I think they were called Dark Seed but I might be wrong) then let me know, any copies I've ever found or downloaded were knackered.

give you Sanitarium then so?
Will keep an eye out, but I don't tend to be looking much.

Rock 'n' Roll Racing was a SNES game that was fun and had a natty soundtrack.
NHLPA Hockey (some year, '93 or something) was great. Megadrive version was better.
Hmm, this is harder than I thought it'd be.

My thoughts precisely - when I uploaded the Snes emulator onto the PsP I was sitting there thinking "Wow, now I can play all those awesome games like.... um.... Mario and.... hell..." I remember the Mechwarrior game was good and I seem to recall enjoying Secret of Mana and thats about it.

Of course, a more insidious lesson remains to be learned - specifically, that you can never go home.

Oh I don't know, I'm enjoying a lot of the ROMs I have, possibly because the small size of the screen means that the graphics look nice and crisp and spiffy. Mario is still fun, the RPGs are still quite involving (though they lack the impressive cutscenes and don't have quite as good a story as later Square games) and puzzle games will be good forever.

Not really familiar with the Megadrive, but SNES games as follows -
F-Zero, Super Mario Kart (racing)
R-Type, Parodius, Nemesis (shooters)
Streetfighter II (fighter)

The mode 7 games like Mario Kart don't seem to work on the PsP emulator for some reason (plus I have a couple of PsP racing games already thanks to the magic of freebies and less than legitimate downloads). Streetfighter is a pain in my hole, I can't pull off any of the moves any more and I was always more of a Mortal Kombat kinda guy (though only the Megadrive versions, the Snes ones removed all the blood, gore and fatalaties)

Forget F-Zero as well then, it's also a Mode 7.
As for other games, try Castlvania IV. I have a load of roms at home. Will check them out tonight for you.

I have a few castlevania games but I think overall platformers are the ones that age the worst with a few exceptions like the later Megamans, Marios and Shinobi games. Still, that would rock, I'm digging through my CDs for my old collections at the moment too.

I'm currently replaying Tomb Raider yet again. The original is still the best, even the now incredibly dated blocky graphics and irritatingly crap camera angles are just part of it's charm.
And Dave's trying to convince me I want to play Diablo II but I've abandoned it after about level 4 or 5 like I did with WoW, I really can't seem to get into the whole online RPG thing.
