1. What year was it?
199...1 to 1996? I forget exactly.
2. What were your three favourite bands?
Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Stone Temple Pilots.
3. What was your favourite outfit?
Favourite is a bit strong, alterative fashions were thin on the ground in Cavan. What I mostly wore were baggy jeans and a tee shirt. Not all that different from now I guess - just replace Jeans with combats.
4. What was up with your hair?
It was a damned sight longer than it is now. My hairline was in the same place as it is now and anyone who says otherwise is a fucking liar.
5. Who were your best friends?
Chris "Cricky" Bergin, Martin "Fra" Deignan and ... good God.. a bloke whose name I can't remember now but died a few years back from a heart condition he'd had all his life. Poor fucker knew he didn't have much more than 25 years on this earth and never told us.
6. What did you do after school?
Went home on the death trap bus, did my homework and played games on my amiga or watched TV. We lived in a fairly remote part of the county and I wasn't much bigger on social interaction then than I am now.
7. Did you take the bus?
Yeah, like I said, a death trap. The damned thing picked up and transported the biggest bunch of scumbags you'd ever encounter (at least in a small countryside community)
8. Who did you have a crush on?
Lordy... Sonya Kyselika (almost certainly spelled wrong there). A polish american girl who went to our school for several years. She was a Jehova's Witness and had mental parents so she wouldn't even talk to boys. Yeah... that one didn't pan out too well for me. Then there was Joanne Malone, the girl with the biggest boobs in the class (which honest to God had nothing to do with the crush). I'd gotten up the courage to ask her to dance one time at a disco, turned my back for a second and the next thing I knew, Chris Bergin was locking lips with her.
9. Did you fight with your parents?
Most of the time. Without tooting my own horn, and all signs to the contrary, I'm very intelligent and school was a complete and utter breeze for me, combine that with the early realisation that getting into college was never going to be difficult for me and you had the classic "has brains to burn but doesn't apply himself" report cards that inevitably led to conflict. I barely bothered studying (from their perspective) since I knew it all already from taking it in in class and that drove them spare.
10. Who did you have a CELEBRITY crush on?
Shannon and Angel from "Home and Away".
11. Did you smoke cigarettes?
A bit on the school bus but I couldn't trust the little shits on it not to rat me out.
12. Did you lug all of your books around in your backpack all day because you were too nervous to find your locker?
I had plenty to carry but that had more to do with the way classes were arranged and the homework load I had. I had no fear from people around by locker because I tended to beat the living hell out of anyone who tried anything with me near such a handy hard steel surface.
13. Did you have a 'clique'?
I doubt we would have considered it one but yeah, sort of. We hung around the back corridors of the school doing nothing more malicious than discussing star trek and it drove the teachers mad because they were convinced we had to be up to something but could never catch us. Mercifully some of the biggest most psychotic muck savages hung around with us and also liked star trek and the like so we were never bothered by other students.
14. Did you have "The Max" like Zach, Kelly and Slater?
Nope. A couple of discos with a relaxed attitude towards underaged drinking is about all.
15. Admit it, were you popular?
Not really, but not unpopular either. We didn't really have the cool kids in our school - our sports teams were a bit shite and no one much cared about them.
16. Who did you want to be just like?
Indiana Jones, MacGyver, that kind of thing.
17. What did you want to be when you grew up?
I've never had a clue, still don't.
18. Where did you think you'd be at the age you are now?
I'm not sure of this one either, almost certainly not this. Probably something LIKE a travel writer or in that vein.
