You know

When you work in a small company, it is generally a bad sign when someone sends around an email saying "Dear everyone, as you probably know it is my last day on friday before I leave for , so we're getting together for a drink in some pub or other around seven on friday night" and you think to yourself "Who the fuck is he?".

Its up there with turning to face the person standing behind you as you open the door and asking "Can I help you?" only to be told that they work here.

Out of touch... yup..

Ha, I did the "Can I help you?" thing once and it was the director of the college...

Hee hee. When I started work in the place where I still (13 years later) work, I arrived on the doorstep to be greeted by the then secretary saying, "Can I help you?" "Yes", I said, "I'm starting work here today." "Oh," she said. "Are you? I didn't know that." In fact, the only person who knew was the boss (who had hired me two days earlier) and the accounts person. I was glad he'd at least told the accounts person.
