Khaaaannnnnn!

Damn you corporate Ireland! You're taking a perfectly good cafe that sold breakfasts (and the best bacon rolls in the country) and hot dinners and bagels and are turning it into a shop that exclusively sells bagels.

I wouldn't mind only theres another perfectly good bagel factory (for that is what they're rebuilding the place as) about 100 yards down the road.

Ooh, that's EVIL! And WRONG. In so many ways.

Well I can't explain why but its actually annoying me that this has happened. I guess its because every morning for about four years I've gone into that place and every morning for three and a half years they've started preparing my order as soon as they see me come in - if they saw me getting off the bus they'd start then.
Of course, now I'm not having a bacon roll every morning I'll probably live longer :)

Huh... I guess I just explained why...

Well, yes there is that. But it's the principle of the thing dammit! If you wish to commit slow suicide by bacon you should be allowed to. And bagels are just wrong anyway.

They're certainly bloody wrong for breakfast anyway. And lunch... and any time you don't need something to stick in a catapault and hurl at the enemy really.

Soooo... which cafe?

Woods on Baggot st. Though I seem to be the only person in the office that holds the opinion that it was a nice place to get food. The general reaction was something along the lines of "Its about time that greasepit got cleaned out".

Never bin there, but I get the idea. All the decent greasy spoons in Dublin are getting turned into santised little coffee shops and sandwich bars now :(

The pubs too. Most of the places within short walking distance of work (the henry grattan in particular) have changed hands and appearance several times in the past four years. The HG used to be a nice dingy pub full of techies but now its a big polished wood and chrome piece of crap filled with suits.
I guess us scruffy IT types are an endangered species now or something.

Yeah, I was in the HG last night for the first time in ages. Feels like an airport departure lounge now.

Actually, yeah. That's pretty much it alright. I wandered in there a few days back to get a box of matches so I could have a smoke after locking my lighter in the office and I got some dirty sodding looks from the crowd in there. Granted I was wearing doc martens (with splashes of pancake batter on them), torn combats and a ripped leather coat but thats never been worth a mexican wave of raised eyebrows before.
